Defenses have been a controversial defense strategy since the beginning of the game. Use Defenses or not? Which method is better for my defense? How can I use them? Are there ways to make them stronger?
Get ready Generals, it’s time to tackle Wall Defenses! In this article, we will look at everything you need to consider when using wall defenses as part of your overall defensive strategy.
What Are Wall Defenses?
The Oxford Dictionary defines Defense as:
defence (noun) · defences (plural noun) · defense (noun) · defenses (plural noun) · the defence (noun)
- the action of defending from or resisting attack.
“she came to the defense of the eccentric professor” · “he spoke in defense of a disciplined approach” · “they relied on missiles for the country’s defense”
protection · shielding · safeguarding · guarding · security · fortification · cover · shelter · screen · resistance · deterrent
- military measures or resources for protecting a country.
“the minister of defense” · “defense policy”
armaments · weapons · weaponry · arms · military resources/measures · the military · the army · the navy · the air force · deterrence
- a means of protecting something from attack.
“education is the best defense against tyranny”
fortifications or barriers against attack.
barricade · fortification · bulwark · buttress · fortress · fastness · keep · rampart · outpost · bastion
- military measures or resources for protecting a country.
World War Rising is no different. Wall Defenses are the fortifications or barriers against attacks that can be boosted to assist in your Defensive Technique.
It is EXTREMELY important to note that in World War Rising, DEFENSE and DEFENSES are two different things. While Defenses can help your overall Defensive Strategy, you must pay careful attention to the terminology used when looking at research, skills, emblems, or anything else that may be there to help strengthen your Wall Defenses but will not work for Defense in other areas.
One of the first terminology mistakes everyone makes in the game is emblems. The Heroic Emblems you can earn at the beginning of the game say Defenses Attack. Many read that as Attack from a defensive standpoint. Be sure to pay careful attention to which things help only defense or help your Defenses. If you have no Wall Defenses and use Heroic Emblems, they are completely useless to assist your defensive strength, as one example.
Pay attention to Terminology
Wall Defense eventually becomes a very important part of your Defensive strategy, so it’s very important that you are able to not only utilize them correctly but to make them as strong as possible.
Wall and Supporting Buildings
Your Wall Defenses are located within your Wall Building located inside your Command Center. To view the possibilities of Defenses to train, simply click on the wall. A list will appear that contains the varied tiers and types of Defenses you are able to utilize.
Inside the Wall, Defenses are Listed by Level
Also located within the Wall is a location to store specific Vehicles to use in your Defensive Strategy. To equip your vehicles in your Wall, go into your Wall and click on the Defending Vehicles Tab to add. Depending on Level, you will have the capability to have one to three vehicles to help assist in your defensive strategy.
Equip Vehicles to Your Wall for added Defensive (not Defenses) Stats
The Vehicle Hanger is where the Vehicles you can equip in your Wall are Located. Click on your Vehicle Hanger to see the Vehicles you are able to choose from.
The Vehicle Hanger
Vehicles to Utilize in Your Wall are Listed in the Vehicle Hanger
Be Sure to Carefully Go Over Stats to Maximize Your Potential
Your first Vehicle Can be Equipped at Vehicle Hanger Level 2. The Cost is 50k Fuel.
Your second Vehicle Can be Equipped after Completing Unlock the Vehicle Defensive Slot 2 in Stalwart Bastion Research. The Cost is 50k Fuel.
The third Vehicle Can be Equipped at Vehicle Hanger Level 60. The Cost is 50k Fuel.
*Pro Tip- Be sure to Look at ALL of Your Vehicles! Some Vehicles You May Not Think to Use Have Beneficial Stats Such as Armor Piercing or Enemy Attack Deflection Despite Having Mostly Attack or CP Skills.
How are Wall Defenses Used?
Wall Defenses, more commonly referred to as “Walls” by WWR Generals, begin at tier 0 with Barbed Wire. Currently, in the oldest timeline, Walls reach tier 11. Aside from the Barbed Wire that is in a class all its own, each tier has Traps (strong versus Infantry Troops), Land Mines (strong versus Vehicle troops), and Turrets (strong versus Artillery Troops). All Walls have a weakness to Operative Troops.
Walls can be used immediately in the game, and although I know of a few that we’re able to use them successfully, for the most part, Wall Defenses do not have the strength to assist well for defense in the earlier stages of your gameplay Once certain factors fall in place, such as completing skills in Ronen’s Mastery Tree, Level 90 and 100 Defense Research Trees, and troops such as Scorpius become available, Wall Defenses become a very successful way to defend.
There are several ways to incorporate Traps, Land Minds, and Turrets into your Defense. It depends largely on the existing status of your base. Keep in mind that if you have not done the appropriate research etc, Wall Defenses count towards your losses and can still cause you to burn when not properly strengthened. Some people like to use Defenses for their front line, while others only train the top level they are able. On average, once people begin to actually invest in a Defenses strategy, they stagger walls so that the attack is broken up between troops and Defenses, partitioned between regular troops and Mercenaries.
The staggered approach worked very well for me for quite some time. For example, I made sure a handful of t8 walls engaged in the battle along with higher-level supporting Defenses to counter those pesky Masq/Ops attacks that were so popular for some time (and more than likely still will be depending on the timeline.) This is not to say it is not a feasible attack, just that it is not necessarily the strongest. If Attackers use Masqs as any part of their strategy, Walls are very helpful. Defenses are one of the best ways to help counter these attacks.
Wall Defenses are Strong Vs. Masquerat Mercenary Troops
Don’t forget: although Defenses are strong against Masquerat troops, they are effective only when boosted correctly. The important thing is that you test and experiment with what works best for you. When you begin to notice it is not as effective as it once was, change your strategy appropriately.
Don’t Forget! In most KE/RvR Events, Killing Wall Defenses Count Towards Earning Points to the Attacker. Keep This in Mind as You Formulate Your Personal Strategy!
Tips for Making Your Defenses Impregnatable
There are several ways to make your Wall Defenses Deadly. One of THE most important things to remember about Wall Defenses is that without Scorpius Troops, Defenses can be fairly weak.
Scorpius Mercenary Troops are Crucial for a Solid Wall Defenses Defense
While Scorpius Troops help boost other factors in your overall defense, Scorpius gives a tremendous 20x boost to all Defenses Attack AND Health stats.
The blog for Scorpius Troops states:
Scorpius’ presence boosts the Attack and Health of all Wall Defenses UP TO 20X
- 5x with 46,000 Scorpius
- 10x with 125,000 Scorpius
For example, if your Defenses Attack Stat is at 450,000%, it now becomes 9,000,000%. Similarly, Defenses Health at 425,000% now becomes 8,500,000% with the incredible boost from Scorpius. This is a MASSIVE increase.
Remember that the Boost from Scorpius Mercenaries is a Multiplier, so Boosting the Existing Defenses Attack and Health through Research, Emblems, Skills, etc. is Crucial to Make the Amount you Multiply by 20x Even Greater!
Morse Counter Tactics Boost
This consumable Boost can be a lot of fun to use. Counter Tactics works by Morse converting your Counter Intelligence Boost into Defenses Attack and Defenses Health up to 100%. This means that the boosted Counter Intelligence that Morse enabled will change into completely different stats.
Convert Counter Intelligence to Wall Defenses Attack and Health Stats
The potential for power is astounding. Morse’s presence in your base will boost your Counter Intelligence up to 4x. In the blog for Morse, it states:
His presence will boost your Counter Intelligence by up to 4x:
- 1.5x with 32,000 Morse
- 2x with 70,000 Morse
- 2.5x with 120,000 Morse
This means that a base with a Stat of 945,000% Counter Intelligence is now boosted to 3,780,00%.
Morse Counter Tactics can be Found With Other Consumable Boosts
Activating the consumable boost, Fake Army and Counter Tactics, will boost your Counter Intelligence boost from Morse 100%.
This boost has not been available in events as of yet, so use it wisely.

I asked our community to share some of their experiences with Wall Defenses. Here is what these Generals had to say:
“My simple wall experience for you.
Pre Scorpius wall defenses = trash.
Post Scorpius wall defense = good (if built at the right tier).” –Htron (^LTS) Region #519 Granite Front
“I use a staggered defense and it works very well, I have 50K T7 of each type ( this I keep replenishing using gold as I am being attacked) then have 100k T8 of each type ( this I also replenish as I am attacked, if time allows) then 200k T9 of each type, then rest T10 all types. Once I unlocked T11, I will start building them up, and not replenish T10, until t10 is about 500k each type, so that bulk is T11. Most attackers miss the fact that I replenish the T7 and T8, as I do it after scout, just before each hit. This minimizes losses to T9 and T10 and most don’t notice that I am on Line.????” –Sky Jedi (FUN) Region #547, Basalt Badlands
“My thoughts on wall defenses are that it really depends on the stage of the game you are in. Some will always say wall defenses make you burn or some may say you need them to fend off certain nuke-style attacks. If your region does NOT have the Scorpius mercenary or you can’t get a good amount of them, wall defenses might not make a great meat shield… On the other hand, you can use them if you are trying to burn trap and bait attacks. If your goal isn’t to burn, using them at least two tiers above your meat wall can be effective to add defensive attack to your base. If you have Scorpius and struggle with defense, masqs are weak against wall defenses, so having them hit WITH your meat shield can actually work in your favor.
If you still aren’t sure, the most tried and true method of finding out if wall defenses are useful for your base is by a good old fashioned test with a trusted attacker to see how different tiers of wall defenses affect your defense and if you should be using them for your purposes or not. Used effectively, they can be a great asset to your base or be the reason you get zeroed. Test, test, and test again until you know.” –Hakoshi (2shy) Region #497, Palladium Territory
