The aim of this article is to introduce players to the different techniques that can be applied to optimize resource cost with a few examples.
Overview
Resources are a currency in the game used for building, research, troop training, and mercenary upgrading. Knowing how to manage and utilize them effectively affords a player the opportunity to gain a considerable advantage over others. There are a few basic principles and factors that must be considered when discussing resource cost efficiency, the right hero, hero skills, gear, and emblems must be put in place first and foremost. Economic research, banners, and boosts also come into play.
Hero
Overtime and at different hero levels the choice of which to use for different needs changes, specific skills embedded in each hero also make them a unique choice for certain functions. Riggs and Bruce are the primary heroes to be considered when discussing economic efficiency thanks to their peculiar skills but this is not always the case. Talia’s Mercenary Resource and Dossier cost-efficiency skills is a prime example showing how a naturally non-economic hero can outshine all others, greatly reducing Resource and Dossier costs for Mercenary research. Worthy to note that Mercenary research constantly gets updated as new mercenaries are released and Talia helps reduce the increasingly expensive cost in dossiers to do this research far better than any other hero does. The hero, Ronen also has specific skills for set bonuses and battlemark research cost reductions as well.
Gear
Certain gear sets become available for use shortly after the tier of resources they aid are required. Interestingly, having a full set of a particular gear in place is not always the best idea, and mixing components from different sets leads to a more efficient custom set more often than not. The set bonus accrued from complete gear sets may not necessarily improve their efficiency towards cost reduction as well.
Emblems
Much like gear sets, specific emblems are also released to aid resource cost efficiency for building and research. Set bonus for emblems also works in the same way, using a Carbon Copy Emblem in the fourth Emblem slot and doubling up on two cost-efficiency emblems far outweighs the emblem set bonus from using a complete emblem set.
Research (Economic)
For many players, deciding what research to invest in first is a challenge. Moreso when economic research itself requires resources to complete. Certain tiers of resources stay scarce for lengthy periods of time, and the percentage of reduction afforded by completing economic research first at a particular stage in base development might not be worth the resources spent in the short term for high budget players. However, for average and low budget spenders, investing in economic research first goes a long way in reducing the costs of completing other necessary research and building upgrades.
T6 Research
The best resource cost-efficiency setup for research requiring T6, I have found, are the main four pieces of pioneer gear and the three accessories of the voyager gear set. The accessories for pioneer gear only reduce the efficiency of T5 resources. The emblems best used for reducing T6 RSS cost are two innovation emblems with a carbon emblem. Level 6 emblems are 20% reduction meaning a total reduction of 40% per gear piece.
T6 Building
The best resource cost-efficiency setup for buildings requiring T6 resources are the Architect gear main 4 pieces of equipment with the three accessories of the Founder gear. The emblems best used for reducing the cost of the T6 resources are two Industry emblems with a carbon emblem. Level 6 emblems are 20% reduction meaning a total reduction of 40% per gear piece.
T7 Research
The best resource cost efficiency for completing research that needs T7 resources are the Voyager main pieces with the accessories of the newest gear available to us Investigator. The emblems best for reducing the T7 resources in research cost are two Inquiry emblems with a carbon emblem in the fourth slot. Level 6 emblems are a reduction of 5% meaning a total of 10% per gear piece.
T7 Building
Resource reduction for building with T7 at the moment can still be rather costly. Currently, there is no gear to mix. Full founder gear is the gear that is the most cost-efficient while the main four pieces reduce only T6 resources they do carry speed reductions so do still help. The three founder accessories do help with T7 resource efficiency. The best emblem to use for building with T7 is two architecture emblems with a carbon emblem. Level 6 Architecture emblems have a reduction of 5% for a total reduction of 10% per piece.
Troop Training
Troop training for T8 and T9 troops, for example, can be very resource costly, with the millions of troops we can send to their heroic demise replacing them can be very expensive. T8 and T9 troops cannot be instantly trained with gold like T7 troops can be at the moment. For T8 troops, an example of a cost-efficient way to build them is using the main four pieces of the Martinet gear and accessories of the Delta Commander gear. As far as emblems go there is a T8 training speed emblem for the fourth slot, the Maneuver emblem, but for the purpose of resource efficiency the most resource-efficient way is combining two Conditioning emblems and a carbon copy emblem. The Conditioning Emblem has a resource efficiency of 20% per emblem for a total of 40% efficiency per equipment.
T9 troop training requires the full Delta Commander gear set and no specific emblems are available to reduce the cost efficiency for this as at the time of publishing this article.
