Hero Mastery. It’s an important aspect with a wealth of stats for your account to make you the toughest General around.
Over a year ago, I wrote an Article on Hero Mastery: Be Master of Your Account. While this Article still applies to the newest timelines, there have been several Mastery Updates as well as new Heroes introduced that needed to also be brought into the spotlight.
In this new and updated version, we will review the new Mastery Presets, how to use them, and take a look at what all of the new Heroes have to offer in their Mastery Trees.
What is Hero Mastery?
We are always looking for ways to become stronger than our neighbors. Especially in the beginning of the game, I wanted the stats without adding too much power level whenever possible. One of my favorite ways to do this is through Hero Mastery. Hero Mastery allows skills that are not reflected in power level.
All heroes have a Hero Mastery Tree. Some Mastery you cannot equip until heroes reach a certain level, so there is a balance when allocating points. Be sure to check Mastery capabilities whenever your heroes go up any levels to ensure you are benefiting from all the stats you are able.
In a nutshell, Hero Mastery is an extra set of skills that all heroes have. (With the exception of the Hero Trio, Mara, Jade, and Ryder so far.) These skills range from Attack stats to Anti-Squad stats to assist your gameplay.
IMPORTANT: Hero Mastery is Active at All Times, Even While Heroes are Inactive
How is Hero Mastery Used?
To utilize your Hero Mastery, follow the steps below:
- Hero Icon
- Skills
- Skill Presets
- Choose a Preset
- Select Mastery
- Select the Mastery Skills You Want to Use
- Hit Skill Preset on the Mastery Screen
- Click Equip

Tips for Skilling Hero Mastery
When allocating points to your Hero Mastery Trees, be sure to pay attention to what skills you need. Which skills you choose primarily depend on what type of account you have. This is especially important if you have a limited amount of Hero Mastery Points to distribute. For example, if you do not hold Control Points, you do not need to worry about allocating points to that skill.
Presets allow you to skill for the activity you will be doing when you are not able to max out your Hero Mastery. As you can see in the images above, I have separate Presets for Growth, Defense, and Syndicate/Raid Boss Attacks.
Always remember to skill for the correct action. If you are defending, once again you will not need Hero Attack Skills. I personally try to skill my Hero’s Mastery similar to how I do research and set other skills. I do every skill I can in areas that actually affect me first.
Until you are maxed in your Hero Mastery, I can not stress enough how important it is that you do not waste skill points on skills that will not help you at the moment.
I know many of you are hoping for the exact way to skill your Hero Mastery. Unfortunately, there are just too many possibilities to include in one article. If you stick to skilling only what you need, it’s difficult to go wrong. Keep in mind, on occasion, you will have to “waste” skills in order to open the next available level of the Mastery you DO need. Be careful not to go over the minimum requirement to move on to the desired skill so all skills possible go to maximize your action at hand.

While I do not have Ember yet, I believe you are mistaken on when Bruce, Aria and Eli get Mastery skills. All of mine currently have only Hero skills available. Bruce is currently maxed at level 100, Aria is at 99 and Eli at 80. None have Mastery skills available. I can send screen shots if needed.
